A big shout out should be given to the PanAm Games.  Besides making all the construction downtown Toronto a nightmare for the past few years – now that the Games are finally here, we as Torontonians can rejoice at the new infrastructure we have built to welcome the athletes and fans to our beloved city.

CN Tower’s Edgewalk: Adventurous or Insane?

EdgewalkTorontoArticlePreview

I have this reaccuring nightmare that I’m falling.  Sometimes from a building, sometimes from a space shuttle (product of watching the Challenger explode on TV in school I’m sure).  Everytime I dream of falling, I wake with crazy anxiety and it takes a lot to get back to sleep.  Why you might ask, would the … [Read more…]

Toronto’s Newest Oasis: Rouge National Urban Park

Rouge National Urban Park Bob Hunter

I love living in the city.  In less than an hour on public transit I can dine in amazing restaurants, see the latest theatre production, cheer on one of many major league sports teams, even be at the airport ready to board my next flight to anywhere.  But as much as I love the city, … [Read more…]

Skipping School for an Education…Semester 2

Pelee Island

Truth #2: I have met very few teachers that disagree – the classroom is only one of the ways children can learn and develop.  As long as a child isn’t struggling through the day to day lessons taught within the confines of traditional school, missing out on a few days in a classroom can be … [Read more…]

Pelee eIsland Sign

Truth: I rarely skipped school. As a young child, my favourite game was “school” with my Mom, and I was one of the few kids growing up that looked forward to September more than any other time of the year. Any holidays away were planned around the school year – focusing on March Break and … [Read more…]

Chute Montmorency…Why Did It Take So Long To Discover You?

Montmorency Falls

“It’s higher than Niagara Falls, I swear!” This was the response I got from both my step daughter and my niece when I raised my eyebrow after first hearing of Montmorency Falls.  Higher than Niagara? Surely I would have heard of such a place that’s less than a day’s drive from Toronto.  It turns out … [Read more…]

Quebec Brewpubs – My Personal Top 5

Inox Quebec city beer sampler

It started out to be a week long roadtrip, with no real destination in mind except a stop to check out Quebec City.  Then a random search on Google, a few pints later, we had mapped out more of a must visit Brewpub tour of the province of Quebec, rather than a typical tourist attraction … [Read more…]

Exploring Toronto: Kensington Market and Chinatown

Chinatown Toronto

A bitterly cold Saturday morning, and we are met by our guide Jason in front of Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario.  Bundled up under a gray snow cloud sky, we introduced ourselves and Jason gave a brief introduction to the Urban Adventure Tour: Kensington Market and Chinatown.  One of their “best sellers”, this 2 hour … [Read more…]

Stopover: Montreal

Montreal skyline Quebes

Montreal is only an easy 5 hour drive, an 1 hour flight, or in my case this past week, a 5 hour relaxing train ride from home.  Technically, I didn’t “stopover” on my way to somewhere else, but since I only stayed a few nights, this mini vacation was more like a stopover rather than … [Read more…]

Beer Makes History Better…the tour

2012-10-14 by Tanya Leave a Comment
Toronto-20121012-00018

As part of my attempt to become a better tourist in my hometown, I signed up for the Urban Adventure, Beer Makes History Better. Truth be told, they had me at beer. A history lesson as well sounded like a valuable bonus, so at 3pm on a Friday afternoon, we met our tour guide Jason … [Read more…]
